October 10 2010 build
| This is the article of a development build of Skyscraper Simulator.|
It has been confirmed a good-faith contribution to the Skyscraper wiki.
This is the first regular build of the Alpha 8 code. This is mostly like the last experimental build but with some fixes, and a switch to a shader-based lighting system instead of the old lightmap system. The difference between this and Alpha 7 is that the program's entire 3D processing system has been rewritten to use the newer Genmesh plugin in Crystal Space - it appears to run a little faster and uses less memory in some circumstances (this is especially noticeable on 64-bit builds). Lighting work is still in progress, and I'm having problems getting it to work properly. This also has a maximum distance value (default 100) that small objects (such as directional indicators, controls, call buttons) will be shown - that should speed some things up. Some things that worked in Alpha 7 might be broken in this - I'm still testing things (and if you find something that's broken, post about it on here).
